There are seventeen spin-off games, a number of short films, and a number of transmedia projects in the franchise. Novelizations of the major games have appeared, each of which adapted and expanded upon the plot of the original game.
For Ubisoft Montreal and Ubisoft France, the entire Assassin’s Creed series is developed and published by Canadian studio Ubisoft Montreal, with the exception of Assassin’s Creed: Altar’s Chronicles and the mobile version of Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood developed by Gameloft, Assassin”s Creed Chronicles by Climax Studios and Assassin’s Creed Syndicate and Odyssey by Ubisoft Québec.
Playstation 3 and 4, PlayStation 4 and 5, Wii U, and Xbox 360 are among systems where the series has appeared in one form or another during the course of its existence. While the gameplay varies from game to game, it is rooted in the classic action-adventure formula, with a focus on stealth, battle, and free-running throughout.
